Acker, Patricia E. (27 MAY 1943)

Patricia Evelyn Acker of Madison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Acker of Lawrenceville, Ill., formerly of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of James Theron Haire, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Haire of Withee, on Thursday, May 27th, 1943, at two o’clock in the afternoon. The service was read by the Rev. Charles H. Meeker at the Community Congregational Church at South Bend, Ind. With lighted candles at the altar and beautiful bouquets of pink peonies at the sides, with each pew decorated with a white bouquet of mixed flowers and organdy streamers, the setting was very well suited to the occasion.

The bride’s only attendant was Miss Mildred Wehrwein of Milwaukee, who wore an Alice blue gown of organdy, trimmed in lace to match, she carried a bouquet of pink roses and blue iris. The best man was Randolph Van Lew Hall of New Haven, Conn. The ushers, Alden Hankla of Radford, Va., and Herbert M. Hanier Jr. of Boston, Mass., all were attired in white, and identical to that worn by the groom.

The bride was given in marriage by her father, and as they entered, beneath a bower of white lilac’s the groom sang a solo, "Because," accompanied on the pipe organ by Mrs. Florence Austin of South Bend. The bridal gown was of white silk jersey trimmed in rows of gathered self material, three quarter length sleeves and fitted bodice, with sweetheart neckline. The fingertip length veil was adorned with Juliet headdress of orange blossoms, and the bridal bouquet was white roses and lilies of the valley, with satin streamers.

Both Mrs. Acker and Mrs. Haire wore navy blue, with shoulder corsage of white gardenias and sweet peas.

A reception and banquet at Hotel Hoffman, followed the ceremony at 5:30, and covers were laid for 16 guests. The private dining room and tables were decorated with pink peonies and at the center of the table, the tiered wedding cake.

Patty and Jimmy, as they are known here, both finished their High School days in Owen, having graduated with the class of 1938. Patty attended the State University at Madison, taking up nursing and is now an R.N. She is also affiliated with the American Red Cross. Jimmy went to Minneapolis and after four years at the University of Minnesota, graduating in December 1942. He is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi. On May 21st, 1942, he enlisted in Class V-7 Naval Reserved, and in January was sent to Midshipmen school at Notre Dame University, Indiana. He graduated as an ensign at 11 o’clock in the morning of May 27th, which was also his wedding day.

Mrs. Ruth Boot and her sister Grace Cross, also Blanche Toole, all of Chicago, attended the wedding. Edna Mae Haire came from Hamilton, Ohio and Mr. and Mrs. Acker from Lawrenceville, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Albert of Withee accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Haire, leaving on Wednesday morning, and returning Friday night. Edna Mae came back home with them.

The newlyweds arrived here on Saturday and left Sunday for Minneapolis, remaining there until Wednesday when they expect to leave for San Francisco to make their home, where Ensign Haire is assigned temporary active duty.

A host of friends extend their heartfelt wishes for a happy married life.
