Jalling, John E. Sr. #2 (1870 - 14 FEB 1943)

John Emeroldsen Jalling Sr., age 72 years, died at his home in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) Sunday, Feb. 14, 1943, following a lingering illness. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Danish Lutheran Church with the Rev. L.C. Bundgaard officiating, and burial took place in the Danish Church Cemetery.

He was born in Denmark in 1870 and came to America in 1889, and located at Luck, Wis., after which he went to Erwin, S.D., where he resided for four years. He came to Withee in 1899 and established himself in business, where he continued until 1938, retiring to live in his home just north of the village. His sons, John Jr., from that time on conducted the business.

He was a businessman of much prominence in the village, and for a number of years served on the village board, and was a big help in building the community.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, two sons, John Jr., Withee, and Henry of Thorp, and three daughters, Mrs. Ted (Marguerite) Sorensen, Withee, Mrs. James (Camilla) Hansen Jr., Withee, and Mrs. Lloyd (Signa) Bangsberg, La Crosse.

Mr. Jalling was a charter member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge of Withee.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were: Mrs. W.C. Boeschel, Albert Lee, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Sophus Nielsen and Mr. and Mrs. Ole C. Andersen, Chippewa Falls.
