Schoelzel, Darlene (Marriage - 21 May 1949)

Miss Darlene Schoelzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schoelzel of Colby, and Edward J. Wachtendonk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Wachtendonk of Beloit, exchanged marriage vows Saturday at the St. Mary’s Catholic church, Colby, Wis. Rev. N. B. Beschta celebrated the 9:00 o’clock mass.

Attendants for the couple were Miss Bertha Vander Wielen of Kimberly, and Arthur Wachtendonk, of Kimberly, brother of the groom; Miss Doris Schoelzel, sister of the bride, and Rudolph Schoelzel, Jr., brother of the bride, all of Union Grove. Sandra Schoelzel served as flower girl for her sister, and Arlen Schoelzel, the bride’s brother, was ring bearer.

The bride’s gown was of white satin, fashioned with a fitted bodice, full skirt, long sleeves, and wide lace accenting the deep net yoke. Her fingertip veil was fastened to a tiara of pearls, and she carried a cascade bouquet of lilies, white carnations, yellow and pink roses, and snapdragons.

The maid of honor wore a gown of blue marquisette with matching gauntlets and bonnet, accented with a wrist corsage of roses and carnations. Miss Schoelzel was gowned in yellow marquisette with matching gauntlets and bonnet, and had a wrist corsage of red and white carnations. The flower girl wore a gown of yellow organdy and carried a bouquet of mixed flowers.

A wedding breakfast was served for the wedding party, and at noon a dinner was served to 60 guests in St. Mary’s gym. A reception was held during the day, and in the evening a dance was held at Cherokee hall.

The bride is a graduate of Colby, Wis. High School and has been employed at South Beloit, Ill. The groom, a graduate of Kimberly High School, is employed by the Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company. Following a week’s honeymoon in northern Wisconsin, they will make their home at 1715 Summit Street, Beloit.

Wachtendonk, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Van Handel, Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Wachtendonk, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gehrman, Miss Josephine Wachtendonk, and Theodore Wachtendonk of Kimberly; Mr. and Mrs. John Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Leonard, Lake Geneva; Milton Gutenberger, Burlington; Mrs. William Katte, of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Gutenberger, Greenwood, and Lyle and Jerry Schoelzel, Kenosha.
