Karlen, Louise (13 JUN 1864 - 28 APR 1942)

Louise Bilang was born at Uetendorf, Kanton Bern, Switzerland, on Jun 13th, 1864, and died on April 28th, 1942 at Boyceville, Wis., as a result of pleural-pneumonia. She had reached the age of 77 years, 10 months and 15 days. She came to America at the age of 24 years and on April 25th, 1895, was married to Edward Karlen at Monroe, Wis. In March 1896 they came to live in the Town of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), where they farmed until 1937. They moved to Boyceville that same year and have since made their home there. Mrs. Karlen leaves to mourn her husband (Edward) and five children: Lena (Mrs. August Schutz) of Boyceville, Ernest of Kendallville, Ind., Herman of Boyd, Rose (Mrs. John Wry) and Edward of the Town of Worden, also 18 grandchildren. One daughter preceded her in death.

In her honor the following gave memorial wreaths: Mrs. Walter Wehmeyer, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Beights, Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schreiber, Mr. and Mrs. John Seidel and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stoneburen, all of Kendallville, Ind.; The Ladies and Mens Birthday Club of Kendallville, Ind., the friends and neighbors of the Karlen relatives in the Town of Worden, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weiss, Mr. and Mrs. August Schutz and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Schutz and family, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Smith and Mrs. Rhodes and sons of Boyceville, Wis., St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church Board of Kendallville, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Louis Herzberg of Owen and Mr. and Mrs. John Deutschlander, Thorp.

Services were conducted by Rev. J. Williams of Glenwood City a the home of August Schutz at Boyceville on Wednesday, and by Rev. F.H. Sprengler at the Methodist Church at Thorp at two o’clock on Friday afternoon. Interment was made in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Deutschlander, Herman Dudonsky, Alfred Burkhardt, Ed Beller, Louis Herzberg and Robert Kriese.
