Barr, Mercedes (28 Nov. 1931 - 5 Dec. 1955)

Mrs. Howard Barr of Colby, Wisconsin died at 4:00 o’clock Monday morning at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital at the age of 24 years. She was taken to the hospital Sunday night after becoming ill unexpectedly at her home. The body is lying in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home where a general rosary service will be held at 8:00 o’clock this Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic church Friday morning at 9:00 o’clock, Rev. Vernon Schwartz officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Mrs. Barr, the former Mercedes Kaiser, was born at Athens on November 28, 1931, and was a young girl when her parents moved to Colby, Wis. She attended grade school here and graduated from Colby High School. Her marriage to Howard Barr took place on June 11, 1952. She was a member of the local VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kaiser of Colby, a brother, Donald of Colby; two sisters, Ruth Kaiser of Colby and WAAC Private Kathleen Kaiser of Texas; her maternal grand mother, Mrs. Alma Schemenauer of Colby, Wis.

Mrs. Barr was well and favorably known in Colby and, being of a friendly and kindly disposition, had many friends here who will miss her.

A solemn requiem high mass was read Friday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Wisconsin for Mrs. Howard Barr who died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on December 5. Rev. Vincent Schwartz was celebrant, assisted by Rev. Frank Brickl of Athens and Rev. Raymond Schultz of Abbotsford as deacon and subdeacon. Internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Raymond Schemenauer, Elmer Schemenauer, Fritz Kaiser, LaRoy Schillinger, Marvin Schillinger and Anthony Schillinger, all cousins of Mrs. Barr.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral were Pvt. Kathleen Kaiser of Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Ohm Gregary of Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Lohn of Fairchild, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lanners of Chippewa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Thompson of Tomahawk, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barr of Humbird, Mr. and Mrs. Don Barr of Watervliet, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Schemenauer and family, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Kremsreiter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schemenauer and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Krupka, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Bunklemann, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schreiber, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kaiser, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kaiser, all of Athens., Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kremsreiter and George Kaiser of Wausau, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Schillinger and John Schreiber and Catherine of Milan, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Redman and family of Edgar, Mrs. Adrian Romans and Karen of Fort Atkinson, Mr. and Mrs. George Colmes of Abbotsford and friends from Edgar, Wausau, Abbotsford, Spencer, Unity, Marshfield, Owen, Little Rose and Marathon.
