Schulz, George William Fredrich (1 July 1882 - 12 Dec. 1954)

George William Fredrich Schulz of Colby died Sunday evening at the Wisconsin General Hospital in Madison at the age of 72 years after an illness of several years. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran church, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment will be made in the Green Grove cemetery. Pall bearers are Ed Kademan, Art Grauman, Harold Glenzer, George Tesmer, John Engeldinger and Howard Crossgrove.

Mr. Schulz was born on July 1, 1882, in the town of Colby and attended graded school and Colby High School. In June 1904, he went to Glidden where he worked in different saw mills during the summer months and in logging camps in winter. He also served as a steam engineer on threshing machines. On September 11, 1907, he married Emma Kahring at Glidden. In the spring of 1908, the couple moved to Colby and settled on a forty-acre tract of land, mostly timber land, but, by hard and diligent work, built a fine farm. In 1920, he bought 80 acres of wild land which he also improved. In 1947, he built a house in the city of Colby and he and his wife moved into the building the same year. His wife died on July 9th, 1950, and was buried in the Green Grove cemetery on July 12, 1950.

Surviving are two sons, Louis and Perry Schulz of Colby; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Hohler of Milwaukee; two brothers, Ernest W. Schulz of Colby and Gottlieb Schulz of Spencer; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Smart and Mrs. George Theilig of Colby; and nine grand children. One daughter, Hattie, died in infancy.

Mr. Schulz will be remembered for his friendly and industrious disposition and as a man who took a keen interest in farm organizations. This can be testified to by the various offices he held. He was president of the local Equity Security, secretary of the Farmers Union, director of the Big Four Credit Union, director and treasurer of the Hull Town Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of which organization he was an agent, represented the Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Co. of Madison and served as committee man on the Triple A.
