Bast, Rosa (13 Dec. 1873 - 31 May 1954)

Mrs. Rosa Bast, formerly of Colby, Wisconsin died at 3:00 A.M. Monday in St. Mary’s Hospital at Wausau, where she was admitted as a patient Sunday, at the age of 80 years. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning in Our Lady of Peace Catholic church in Marshfield, Rev. Walter J. Dillenburg officiating, and internment was made in the Hillside cemetery.

Mrs. Bast, nee Kick, was born on December 13, 1873, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When she was seven years old she moved to Bakerville with her parents. She went to Marshfield shortly after 1887 and received her education there. In 1900, she came to Colby and lived here until 1927. She spent the next two years in Marshfield and Stratford and the past 25 years in Wausau and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On September 19, 1892, she married Michael Bast in St. John’s Catholic church in Marshfield. He died in 1928. He operated a soft drink factory in Colby and was employed in a soft drink factory in Marshfield.

Mrs. Bast is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Walter (Isabelle) Sternberg of Milwaukee, Mrs. Arthur (Elsie) Mularpey and Mrs. Kenneth (Rose) Hintz of Schofield, Mrs. Adolph (Arlene) Washlok of Detroit, Mrs. Herbert (Leone) Griepentrog of Marshfield, Mrs. Rose Mowen of Milwaukee and Mrs. Arthur (Violet) Kohnhourst of Wausau; two sons, Oscar Bast of Wenatchee, Wash., and Alex of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Alex and Alfred Kick of Everett, Wash.; a sister, Mrs. Emma Wolf of Marshfield; two half brothers, Ervin Tremmel of Minneapolis, Minn., and Joe Tremmel of Oshkosh; two half sisters, Mrs. Ella Witt and Mrs. Lillian Thrall of Milwaukee; 26 grand children and 25 great grand children. Two daughters and two brothers preceded her in death.
