Murphy, George Francis (30 Nov. 1893 - 12 May 1954)

Funeral services for George Francis Murphy, age 60, who died of a heart ailment last week Wednesday at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital, were held Saturday morning at the Griebnow Funeral Home in Owen, Rev. Hubert L. Crubel, pastor of the Holy Rosary Catholic church of Owen, officiating.

Burial was made in the Lutheran parish cemetery near Curtiss. Pall bearers were William Klessig, Jack Olds, William Fahrenbach, William Veurink, Walter Lipprandt and Donald Kraut. Flowers were in charge of Mesdames Milton Meske, Ray Kobs, William Fahrenbach, Lester Bowen, Franklin Peissig and Jean Erickson.

Mr. Murphy was born in Thorp Nov. 30, 1893, and received his education in Thorp and Gilman schools. On May 19, 1931, he was married to Marion Klune at Abbotsford, Wis.

He worked as a telegraph operator in Abbotsford for 11 years and lived in Chippewa Falls a few years. The past 10 years he worked on cargo steamboats on the Great Lakes before coming to Curtiss. He was a veteran of World War I and belonged to the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife; a brother, William T. Murphy of Chippewa Falls; and three sisters, Mrs. Edmunds Woodward and Mrs. Katherine Beam of Gilman and Mrs. Orea Nye, Sr., of Thorp.

Out of town relatives attending the rites were Mrs. Edmunds Woodward, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Welch and Mrs. Anzon Heagle of Gilman, William Murphy and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nye of Chippewa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nye of Green Bay, Mr. and Mrs. Manford Nye of Rib Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Area Nye, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Orea Nye, Jr., of Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cook and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Bluenke of Hilbert, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cheviette of Milwaukee, Kenneth Boylan of Stevens Point, Orville Reynolds of New Auburn. Noon luncheon was served by several members of the Lutheran Ladies Aid at the parish hall of which Mrs. Murphy is a member.
