Pueschner, Gordon Joseph (3 Feb. 1923 - 6 May 1954)

Gordon (Corky) Joseph Pueschner, age 31, was found dead late Thursday afternoon in the closet of a bedroom in his home in Marshfield. Dr. R. H. Wink, deputy Wood county coroner, termed the death suicide by hanging.

The victim was last seen alive about 4:30 p.m. An hour later his stepson, David Schumacher, 10, attempted to enter the first floor bedroom and found it locked. Going out of the house, the boy looked in the bedroom window and saw the body in the closet. His mother, called home from work, entered the bedroom through an open window and then called police. That was at 5:42 p.m.

Chief of police, Walter H. Wohlfahrt said the victim left no note.

Mr. Pueschner was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Little Black, Taylor county, and received his education in Dorchester, Wis. He lived in Little Black until he entered the service in January, 1944. He served nine months overseas as a medic with the 101st Airborne in Germany. In January, 1946, he was discharged and was married May 28 of that year to Rita Gutenberger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Gutenberger of Colby, at Colby, where they made their home until three years ago, when they moved to Marshfield.

He had been employed by the Clover Cream Dairy Products Company at Marshfield until recently, and was employed by the Dairy Belt Cheese and Butter Company at Spencer the past few weeks. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mr. Pueschner is survived by his wife; two sons, Gordon Lee, 7, and Donald Joseph, 5, two daughters, Kay Lucille, 4, and Charlene Anna, 17 months; and the stepson, David Schumacher, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Lucille Pueschner, Dorchester, two brothers, Phillip Pueschner, Dorchester, Wausau, and Eugene Pueschner, Dorchester; and a sister, Mrs. Alfred (Estelle) Schreiber, Dorchester, Wis.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic church in Marshfield, Rev. Edwin L. Knauf officiating, and internment was made in the Hillside Cemetery.
