Gruszynski, Edmund (7 JAN 1895 - 1 JUL 1941)

Edmund Gruszynski, 45, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at his home there on Tuesday evening, July 1st, 1941.

He was the son of Mrs. J.F. Gruszynski of this village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) and had been visiting here with his family the past week, leaving for South Bend on Monday. His health had been poor for several years, but his death came as a shock to his family and friends of Thorp. Mrs. Gruszynski, Louis and Clara Gruszynski left for South Bend, Tuesday evening.

(Follow on in 07/10/1941 Thorp Courier)

Edmund L. Gruszynski was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on Jan. 7, 1895. He came to Thorp at the age of six years with his parents and here he attended the parochial and public schools, graduating from Thorp High School in 1914. He attended college and chose electrical engineering as his profession, which pursuit he followed until his health failed. His work took him into several states and in 1922 he located in South Bend, Ind., where he was united in marriage to Harriet Wesolowski on Aug. 8, 1922. South Bend was his home since his marriage, but frequent visits to the home of his parents at Thorp kept him in touch with friends and neighbors of younger days. It was after his return to his home from a visit with his mother here that he was stricken with his last and fatal illness. He passed away of pneumonia on Tuesday, July 1, 1941.

With a heavy heart we would drop a tear in memory of Edmund Gruszynski.

His death has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of friends and relatives. His was a heart of gold. He was one of nature’s noblemen in its truest sense, brave, generous, manly.

Besides a devoted wife he leaves to mourn one son, John Joseph, age 8 years; his mother, Mrs. Florentyne Gruszynski of Thorp; two sisters, Mrs. Pelagia Kaniewski of South Bend and Clark Gruszynski of Thorp; two brothers, Adolph of Rochester, Minn., and Louis of Thorp, and many friends in Thorp and South Bend who deeply mourn his untimely demise.

To the brokenhearted wife, son, mother, brothers and sisters, who sit in sorrow where his footsteps shall never again find echo, we extend the sympathy of one who loved him as a brother. May the peace that passeth all understanding come to them from One who cares for each little sparrow that falls.

Funeral services were held at South Bend on Saturday, July 5th at 9:30 a.m., Rev. Father Dolan of Saint Patrick Church officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in that city. Those acting as pallbearers were four nephews, Clarence and Louis Gruszynski, Martin Kaniewski and Frank Lukaszewski, and two friends, Clement Thillman and Leonard Radecki.
