Schoolman, Albert #2 (1 NOV 1865 - 3 FEB 1941)

Albert Schoolman, well known in this vicinity, died Monday in Neillsville. He had been a patient at the Vinton Nursing Home in this city.

The deceased and his brother William were in the news during December, 1935. They ably defended themselves when being held up by two men. Albert shot and killed one of the "hold-up" men. According to the Tribune files, Albert was taken to Neillsville for treatment. He had suffered severe bruises on his face and had been injured otherwise from having a tussle and a "free-for-all" struggle with the man he shot shortly after. The brothers, it was reported at the time, beat off their assailants with their bare hands and a hatchet. As the robbers began retreating from the house, Albert seized a rifle and began firing. A bullet penetrated the heart of one of the fleeing men. The Schoolmans were living at their farm home located in the southwest corner of Loyal Township at the time of the robbery.

Surviving Albert are his brother William who now lives in Iowa, and a nephew who lives near Spencer, Wis.
