Bruss, Bertha (24 Oct. 1890 - 16 Feb. 1960)

Spencer, Wis. - Mrs. Bertha Bruss, 69, was found dead at her home here Tuesday evening by Mr. and Mrs. William Luepke. Cause of death was a heart condition.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. W. R. Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the West Spencer cemetery.

The body is at the Jasperson Funeral Home.

The former Bertha Mellenthin was born Oct. 24, 1890, in Spencer, and was educated in the Spencer schools. She lived in the Spencer area her entire life and was active in church work. Her first marriage was to Edward Matter on May 16, 1907, in Spencer, Wis. He died April 29, 1936. On April 27, 1943, she married Herman Bruss, who preceded her in death March 21, 1950.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ervin (Lorena) Greeler, Neillsville; Mrs. Herbert (Frances) Schwocho, Wausau; two sons, Orville and Walter Matter, both of Spencer; three stepdaughters, 12 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Mellenthin, Marshfield; Edwin Mellenthin, Neenah; three sisters, Mrs. Otto Luther, Marshfield; Mrs. Alma Utecht, North Dakota; Mrs. Walter Brei, Arpin; two half-sisters, Anna Schuetze and Emma Nehring, both of Wausau; and two half brothers, Gust Mellenthin, Watersmeet, Mich.; and Frank Mellenthin, Horicon.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Mellenthin, and two sisters, Mildred and Martha.
