Asplin, Charles Lee (15 Dec. 1889 - 20 Dec. 1943)

Charles Lee Asplin, 54, passed away at his home in the town of Hendren at 12:30 a.m., on December 20, 1943. He had been in ill health the past year and a half. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 23, at 2 p.m. at the Jaster Funeral Home, where the body is lying in state. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Nichols Jardine. Burial will take place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

The deceased was the son of Charles F. and Cordelia Asplin, and was born in Augusta, Wis., on December 15, 1889. When he was nine years of age, the family moved to the farm in the town of Hendren, Clark County, where he grew to manhood.

In 1916, he went to Michigan and was there for a short time. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served overseas for several months during World War I. After the war, he worked for a time for the Goodyear Rubber company in Akron, Ohio.

Mr. Asplin was married in 1921, to Miss Florence Garhardt at Greenwood, Wisconsin. They lived for a few years at Hewettville, an about 1937 moved to the family home in the town of Hendren.

He is survived by his wife and by his mother, Mrs. Cordelia Asplin. Ten children also survived Hubert, who is the U. A. Army; Lila, Mrs. Lloyd Sackett, Alma Center, Wis.; Florence, Velda, William, Lorraine, Donald, Betty, Lois, and Addie at home. There is one grandchild. He is survived by two brothers, Clinton Asplin of Marshfield and James Asplin of Owen. Three sisters also survive: Mrs. Edith Pugh, Tacoma, Wash.; Lottie, Mrs. Claude Mills, town of Weston; Addie, Mrs. Cleve Evans, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Two brothers preceded him in death, and his father, Charles F. Asplin, passed away in October, 1942.

Pallbearers will be six nephews of the deceased, Calvin Mills, Lee Mills, Glen Mills, Herbert Asplin, Craig Asplin and Clyde Evans.
