Finnila, Liisa (8 Aug 1873 - 15 APR 1941)

Final rites were read for Liisa Finnila, 67 years, 8 months and 2 days of age Tuesday, April 15, 1941, with Rev. Walter Isaacs, of Deer River, Minn., officiating.

Services were conducted from the home. Interment was made in the Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers at the service were Moses Makinen, Jacob Weinamaki, Matt Hautamaki, Matt Arola, Gust Leskinen and Henry Pertunen.

Liisa Soyring was born in Lakkajarvi, Finland, on August 8, 1873, where she lived during early childhood. When a young lady she immigrated to America, making her home at Negaunee, Mich., where she lived and was united in marriage to Andrew Finnila on Jan. 11, 1902. This marriage was blessed with five children, two daughters, Mrs. George (Lydia) Stertz of Chicago, and Mrs. Theodore (Martha) Jensen of Chicago, and three sons, Arvi, Einar and Arthur of Camp Lee, Va.

The couple lived at Negaunee, Mich. Until 1912 when they moved to Owen, settling on a farm south of the city where they have since resided. She was a fine Christian Woman, being a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church. For the past several months she had been in failing health, but despite this fact she kept up a stout heart and never would give in and tried to keep her aches and pains from her family.

Her passing is mourned by her husband, Andrew, and children, two brothers and two sisters and four grandchildren besides her many friends in Michigan and this community.
