Meyer, Elmer Wilbert (22 Nov. 1915 - 16 Sept. 1947)

Elmer Meyer, age 31, was killed Tuesday evening while filling silo on his farm about three miles west of Colby, Wisconsin. Meyer had jumped from his wagon to investigate a noise in the filler when the cover of the blower fan flew off and hit him on the head. He was killed instantly.

Mr. Meyer was born in the town of Colby on Nov. 22, 1915, and is survived by his wife and two sons, Ronald, age five, and Robert, five and one-half months, and his mother. His father, Fred Meyer, died in 1943. He was married to Eleanor Wiegman on June 21, 1941.

The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon and then at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran church at Green Grove, Rev. M. C. Goetsch officiating, and burial will be made in the Green Grove cemetery.

Funeral services for Elmer Wilbert Meyer, whose accidental death was chronicled last week, were held at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran church Friday afternoon, Rev. M. C. Goetsch officiating, and internment was made in the Green Grove cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur Schuh, Clarence Farning, Robert Binning, Arnold Edblom, Herbert Lube, Wilbert Miller. Those in charge of the flowers were Gail Edblom, Janice and Jean Alexander, Dorine Mandel, Lennice Frome, Maxine Farning. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Domer of Unity sang "God Will Take Care of You" and "Asleep in Jesus."

The deceased was born in Colby, Wis., on Nov. 22, 1915, thus reaching the age of 31 years, nine months and 25 days. He was married to Eleanor Wiegman, a daughter of Mrs. Martha Rahn, at Green Grove, on June 21, 1941.

Surviving are his widow, his mother, Frieda Edblom, and two sons, Ronald, age five years, and Robert, age six months.

Mr. Meyer was of a congenial and industrious disposition and was well-liked by all who knew him. He was an elder of his church and an AAA committee man.
