Ven Rooy, Peter (11 Feb. 1878 - 4 Apr. 1947)

Peter Ven Rooy, a former resident of the Colby community, died at his home in Abbotsford Friday, April 4th, at 1:25 P.M. at the age of 69 years, one month and 24 days, a sudden heart attack being the cause of his death. Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Catholic church at Abbotsford Tuesday morning, Rev. Francis Brockman officiating, and burial was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. Pall bearers were Clarence Dolan, Myron Cramer, Wm. Koslowzki, Vern Steffen, Malcolm Lamont and Lewis Strener. Flowers were in charge of three nieces of Little Chute, Mrs. Leo Helber, Mrs. Tony Switleck and Mrs. Leo Klely.

The deceased was born at Little ? [misprint in the paper; a line was omitted] married to Raspaline Schommer on Nov. 25, 1905, at Freedom, Wis., to which union thirteen children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Ven Rooy came to this community 32 years ago and engaged in farming. Several years ago, they retired and moved to Abbotsford, Wisconsin. Mrs. Ven Rooy preceded her husband in death.

Surviving children are John C. Ven Rooy of Rockford, Ill., Lambert Ven Rooy of Milan, William Ven Rooy of Milwaukee, Norbert Ven Rooy of Abbotsford, Mrs. Thurn Dearson of Madison, Mrs. Harry Miller of Cherry Valley, Ill., Mrs. Anton Schjonneman of Unity, Mrs. Chet Mew of Chicago, Harold Ven Rooy of Chicago, Mrs. Victor Boss of Abbotsford, Mrs. Russell Stevens of Millsville, Ill., Miss Rose Ven Rooy of Madison, Wis. Surviving also are two brothers, Anton Ven Rooy, and Milton Ven Rooy of Appleton, and nine sisters, all at Little Chute, except one, Mrs. Nellie Vander Werpty of Benson, Minn.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Schommer of Colby, Mr. and Mrs. Einer Olson of Dorchester, Lambert Schommer of Marshfield, Jerome Schommer of St. Nazianz, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hiebsch of Curtiss and the deceased’s brothers of Appleton and sisters of Little Chute.
