Liszewski, John (19 SEP 1919 - 21 JUL 1940)

John Liszewski, 20, of the town of Roosevelt, was instantly killed with a skull fracture early Sunday morning when the auto in which he was a passenger collided head-on with that of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Wasser of California.

The accident occurred on Highway 73 about one and three-fourths miles north of Bellinger. Mr. Liszewski and Walter Bando, driver of the car, were coming from Gilman. Mr. Bando sustained broken ribs, the loss of several teeth and a severe gash in his arm. Mrs. Wasser was also severely injured. Both were taken to the hospital at Stanley. Mr. Wasser received minor bruises and was treated by a Gilman doctor.

John Liszewski, who graduated from Thorp High School with the class of 1938, was born on sept. 19, 1919, in the town of Roosevelt, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Liszewski. He had reached the age of 20 years, 10 months and 1 day.

An upright young man, both physically and mentally, he had planned to attend the university at the coming fall term.

Besides his parents, he leaves to mourn, three brothers, Chester of Chicago and Edmund and Theodore at home; three sisters, Lottie (Mrs. Ben Burzynski) of Thorp, and Julia and Jennie at home; also his grandfather, John Zelewski at Lublin and grandmother, Mrs. John Zelewski of Detroit, Mich.

The body lay in state at the Bogumill Funeral Home here until the time of the funeral which was held at ten o’clock Tuesday morning at St. Stanislaus Church at Lublin, Rev. Jos. Rapala officiating, and interment following in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Peter Burzynski, Theo. Bando, John Bando, Eddie Slowiak, Casimer Wojcik and Steve Czech.
