Bardeleben, Mathilde Johana Dohrethea (10 June 1854 - 20 July 1943)

Mrs. Mathilde Bardeleben, 89, passed away at noon Tuesday, July 20, at the home of her daughter, Olga Knoop.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 23, at 1:30 at the Jaster Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Mathilde Johana Dohrethea Schultz was born in Germany June 10, 1854, to Mr. and Mrs. George Schultz. Before her removal to this country in 1880, she was united in marriage to Frederic Knoop and lived in the town of Pine Valley until the death of Mr. Knoop in 1917. In 1919 she married Frank Bardeleben and moved to Neillsville with her family.

Since her 63 years of residence here she saw and experienced the life of a pioneer with all the changes from wild and timbered lands, corduroy roads and ox teams to concrete roads and automobiles. She became a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church at the very beginning and worked with it for 57 years.

Her departure is mourned by her three children, Anna and Olga, of Neillsville, and Edward, of Wilbaux, Mont., 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers at the funeral were: William Hemp, N. F. Toptine, Frank Hemp, and William Nemitz, Hans Walk and Albert Hemp.
