Duncan, Beverly (7 OCT 1939)

Miss Beverly Wood Duncan, niece of Mrs. Myron Harvey Duncan, became the bride of Gordon Charles Bahr in a quiet impressive ceremony in St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church at 3:30 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, Father Ortmayer officiating. Only members of the two families and a few intimate friends were present. Mrs. L.E. Irvine of Iron River, Mich., a cousin of the bride, presided at the organ. Myron Duncan, another cousin of the bride, impressively sang, "Oh Promise Me." To the strains of Lohengrin’s wedding march, the bride made a lovely picture as she approached the altar on the arm of her father, Homer Duncan of Wausau, Wis.

For her wedding the bride chose a full skirted gown of heavy white crepe, charmingly unadorned. With a veil of finger tip length worn over demure Marguerite cap of white velvet. She carried a bouquet of white gardenias and sweetheart roses. A cameo necklace, a gift of the groom, was her only jewelry.

Miss Joyce MacBride of Sheboygan, the bride’s only attendant, was gowned in periwinkle blue taffeta with a bustle back effect of American beauty taffeta. She carried an arm bouquet of American Beauty roses. The bridegroom’s brother, Robert Charles Bahr, served as best man. They are sons of Mrs. Charles Bahr of Kiel. Their ushers included Paul O’Leary of Iron Mountain, Mich., Cornelius Curtiss and Russell Thiesen of Wausau, and Earl Kidd of Owen, Wisconsin.

A reception followed the ceremony at the home of Mrs. Myron Harvey Duncan and her son, Myron G. Duncan. The home was attractively decorated with white chrysanthemums, pompoms, lilies, and autumn leaves. Later in the day the young couple departed on a wedding trip through the south. They will be at home after Nov. 1 at 612 Harrison Boulevard, Wausau, Wis.

The out of town guests attending the wedding and reception included Miss Joyce MacBride, Miss Hannah Hamcheck, Mr. and Mrs. E.D. MacBride of Sheboygan; Dr. and Mrs. L.E. Irvin of Iron River, Mich.; Mrs. Harry Byerly of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Charles Bahr, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Bahr, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mauer, Mrs. E. My father was the P.C. O’Leary mentioned from Iron Mountain, MI. Although my father was living in Iron Mountain, MI at the time of the wedding, he had lived in Wisconsin (Stevens Point; Green Bay; and Marinette) prior to that, while working for the General Exchange Insurance Corporation.  He was engaged for a brief time (in 1938) to a woman named Evelyn Green from Shelby, Ohio, whom he met when he lived in Stevens Point, WI. In 1938, she was teaching school in Marshfield, WI; however, by the date of the Duncan - Bahr wedding, that engagement had ended.  Molly O'Leary
