Baumgart, Frederick (27 Jan. 1862 - 12 Dec. 1941)

Frederick Baumgart passed away at his home in Colby last Friday, December 12th, heart trouble being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Zion Ev. Lutheran church in Colby, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Reinholdt Voge, Charles Weller, George Kobs, H. P. Mossing, Walter Wiersig and A. W. Bruss. Those in charge of the flowers were Bernice Kobs and Syrena Sabler.

Mr. Baumgart was born in East Prussia, Germany, on January 27, 1862, thus reaching the age of 79 years, 10 months and 14 days. He came to the United States on Dec. 6, 1884, and came directly to Clark county. He was married to Susana Hopp in Colby on May 27, 1893. He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad for 40 years on the section.

Surviving are his wife and four children - Mrs. Lena Prange of North Fond du Lac, Wis., Mrs. Anna Koellermeier of Oregon City, Ore., Mr. O. H. Baumgart of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Lucy Manowski of Fond du Lac, Wis. Also seven grand children and one great grand child. Two children preceded their father in death - Meta Baumgart at the age of 15 years and Verna Baumgart at the age of six months.

The deceased was a good Christian, an indulgent husband and father and always endeavored to perform his duties to the best of his ablility. Like all early settlers, he was of a friendly and honest disposition and will be missed by all who knew him.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Max Prange and daughter, Betty, of North Fond du Lac, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Manowski of Fond du Lac, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Baumgart of Fifield, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Baumgart of Park Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Benzman of Dorchester, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Paul Benzman of Milan, Mrs. Wm. Wenzel of Marshfield and Miss Lenore Baumgart of Chicago.
