Willman, Floradina (3 Mar. 1932 - 26 Sept. 1941)

Homeward bound from school Friday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock, a 9-year-old girl was instantly killed on highway 13, two miles southeast of Spencer, when she was struck by a car driven by Dr. G. G. Schields, Abbotsford physician.

The child, Floradina Willman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Willman, town of Spencer, was walking with traffic on the shoulder of the road, accompanied by her sister, Rosella, 7. Schields told District Attorney E. E. Hohman he came over a hill at 65 miles an hour and saw the two youngsters about 500 feet ahead.

As he came abreast of the children, Floradina suddenly stepped out on the pavement directly in the path of his car, he said. She was hit between the right headlight and fender of the car and carried 175 feet before Schields was able to bring the vehicle to a stop. The physician estimated his speed at 55 miles per hour at the moment of the accident, Hohman stated.

Her sister said Floradina was running across the highway to get an apple from a tree on the other side when she was hit.

An inquest will be held Friday morning. Members of the jury are George Seltz, H. G. Siemers, Wm. F. Jensen, Harold Kuethe, Ralph Jones and ?? Graves, all of Spencer, Wis. The inquest will be officiated by Dr. H. H. Fechtner, Marathon county coroner, and E. E. Hohman, Marathon county district attorney.

Funeral services for the child were held Monday morning at 9 o’clock at Christ the King Catholic church in Spencer and burial followed in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Graf, pastor of the church, officiated.

She was born in the town of Spencer, March 3, 1932. Surviving are her parents, three sisters, Miss Vera Willman, ?, and Rosella and Marion, at home, and two brothers, Albert and Donald, at home.
