Wife of Former Colby Citizen Dies at Mosinee, Wis.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. J. P. Kanter, age 66, of Mosinee were held at 9:00 A.M. August 16th at St. Paul’s Catholic church, Mosinee, Rev. J. B. Cysewski officiating and internment was made in the Mosinee Catholic cemetery. Mr. J. P. Kanter learned the blacksmith trade from N. P. Peterson in Colby, Wis., and then moved to Mosinee when he started a blacksmith shop 52 years ago and lived there ever since.

Mrs. Kanter, nee Emma Rondeau, was born on December 25, 1874, in Rudolph, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Isabelle Hance Rondeau, and, after spending her childhood there, she moved to Mosinee. On April 25, 1892, she was married at Mosinee to J. P. Kanter who survives her. Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. A. W. Schultz, Mrs. Pearl Durkee and Miss Lena Kanter of Mosinee, Mrs. H. W. Wachl of Wausau and Mrs. L. C. Lawrence of Peoria, Ill., and her mother, Mrs. Isabelle Rondeau of Wisconsin Rapids. Five sisters, two brothers, 14 grand children and one great grand child also survive. The sisters are Mrs. Genevieve Douville, Mrs. John Krieg and Mrs. John Rempke of Mosinee, Mrs. Frank Swaboda of Wausau and Mrs. Belle Beck of Wisconsin Rapids, while Arthur Rondeau of Mosinee and James Rondeau of Wausau are surviving brothers.

Colby relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Kanter, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baumgart, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Baer, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Frane, Miss Kathryn Phillippi, Miss Betty Frane and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kanter and son, Donald.
