Death takes another alumni of the Colby, Wis. High School, Cora McCarthy Hardie at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace Robertson, of Medford, on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the age of 71 years, three months and twelve days.

Born at Palmyra, Wis., Oct. 11, 1868, eldest daughter of William H. and Elizabeth Fairbrother McCarthy, she moved to Colby when she was six years old where her parents homesteaded a piece of land and here she grew to womanhood. In the spring of 1885 she taught her first term of school in Curtiss and later taught at Withee, Rib Lake and in the Steinwand, Grey and Schooke districts and for three years was principal of the grammar school in the city of Colby, going in the fall of 1885 to teach at Cedar, Wis., where the following year she married David Hardie and lived on his farm. To this union four children were born, Margaret (Mrs. Mattson), Grace (Mrs. Robertson), David, a teacher at Ashland, Howard of Cedar. Mr. Hardie passed away in November, 1935.

Besides her children and two grand daughters, Jean Robertson and Ruth Hardie, she leaves a host of friends and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ruppert of Mukwonago, Sarah Woodford of Eau Claire and Mrs. Little McEachern of Kamsak, Canada.

Christian service funeral rites were conducted last Thursday afternoon at Solle Funeral Home at Abbotsford and burial made in Mount Hope cemetery at Ashland in the family lot.
