O’Brien, Edith M. (27 Feb. 1933 - 11 June 2004)

Edith M. O’Brien, 93, of the Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth, died on Friday, June 11, 2004. She was born on May 11, 1911, in the Town of Unity, daughter of the late Manley and Fannie (Josephson) Boyer. She married Joseph M. O’Brien on Feb. 27, 1933, in Colby, Wis. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1986. She and her husband operated a farm near Chili, Wis., for some 15 years before they moved to nearby Marshfield. She had worked for the Wood County Hospital and for St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield prior to moving to Plymouth in 1967.

She was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Edith enjoyed gardening, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, and Milwaukee Brewers games, talking with friends and acquaintances and, above all else, her family. She always had a kind, appreciative word for the staff at Rocky Knoll.

Survivors include three children, Marie Gloede, Edward (Debbie) O’Brien, Bernadette (David) Carey, all of Plymouth; a son-in-law, Shorty Volkomener of Plymouth; a daughter-in-law, Carrie Gorenc of Green Bay; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; a sister, Lila O’Brien of Spencer; two brothers, Lester Boyer of Dallas City, Ill., and Harold (Marianne) Boyer of Unity. In addition to her parents and her husband, Joe she was also preceded in death by a son, Robert O’Brien; a daughter, Maggie Volkomener; a grandson, Robert O’Brien; a great-grandson, Gabriel Miller; and a brother, Charles Boyer.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 115 Plymouth St., Plymouth, with the Rev. Dennis Van Beek officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday until the time of services. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Edith O’Brien. Wittkopp Funeral Service, 123 South St., Plymouth, is assisting the family. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Rocky Knoll for all of the wonderful care that was given to Edith.
