Syth, Marion #3 (17 AUG 1932 - 29 MAR 1939)

A tragic and heart rendering accident occurred 3 ½ miles south of Greenwood at Eaton Center Schoolhouse at 8:45 Wednesday morning, when a car driven by Under sheriff Herbert Olson, struck little Marion Syth, six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Syth.

Herbert was driving north from Neillsville and a truck owned by Alvin Butterbrodt and driven by his won, William, stopped and the Syth Children stepped out to go to school. Marion stepped from behind the truck directly in front of the Olson car.

Marion, upon seeing the car rushed for the side of the road so that she was struck by the right side of the Olson car.

Reports have it that Mr. Olson was not driving at a great rate of speed and he stopped the car within 18 feet after striking the child, and that upon seeing her he drove off the right side of the road so that only his two left wheels remained on the concrete.

She was rushed to the Greenwood clinic and Dr. Overman worked on her for an hour but her little body had taken too much punishment to survive and she passed away at 10:15 that morning.

Marion suffered a broken neck, head lacerations, fractured skull, crushed chest, her left side was paralyzed and her arm broken.

The body was taken to the Schiller Funeral Parlors but funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Marion is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Syth, her sister, Shirley, and a brother, George.

Coroner P.C. Ludovic was summoned and picked a jury for an inquest Wednesday afternoon. The inquest has been postponed until after the funeral.
