Smith, Evelyn (Marriage - 11 Mar. 1940)

Monday afternoon, March 11 at two thirty o'clock, Miss Evelyn Smith and Arthur Strey were quietly married at the parsonage of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal with the Rev. J. C. Langholz officiating at the double ring ceremony.

The bride, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Smith, Loyal, wore a tailored suit of dark spring green with accessories to match. Her corsage was of pink roses.

A friend of the bride, Miss Vera Buchholz, Loyal, and Miss LaVerna Strey, Granton, cousin of the groom, were the bridesmaids. Both wore dark tailored suits similar to the suit worn by the bride. They also wore corsages of pink roses.

The groom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Strey, Loyal. His attendants were a cousin, Raymond Strey, Granton, and Howard Rue, Spencer, a cousin of the bride. The men wore conventional dark suits.

After the ceremony a reception was held at the Strey home in the Town of York. Sunday, March 17, a seven o'clock wedding dinner was served to over fifty relatives at the home of the bride's grandparents Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Smith.

The young couple grew up in this community and thus are well and favorably known here. The bride is a graduate of the Loyal High School with the class of '38 and has been employed at the Picus Store. Mr. Strey also attended Loyal High School.

Several pre-nuptial parties and showers have been held for the young couple. The young people honored them Wednesday evening March 6th. On Saturday evening friends and neighbors gathered for a shower at the home of the bride. Tuesday evening the bride's aunt, Mrs. A. Vanderhoof, Spencer, gave a shower in their honor. They received many beautiful and useful gifts.

Their host of friends wish them much luck and happiness on their journey through life.
