Brehm, Edward (14 Nov. 1861 - 12 Aug. 1937)

Edward Brehm died suddenly from a heart attack last Thursday, August 12, at 11:30 P.M. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Reyer, at Cherokee where he made his home. Funeral services were held at the Colby Methodist church Sunday afternoon, August 15th, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Fred Olson, Wenzel Sazama, Wm. Grauman, Ewald Wiersig, Fred Fricke and George Rein. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Fred Fricke, Mrs. Fred Olson, Mrs. Henry Behrens and Mrs. George Rein.

The deceased was born in the township of Wilson, Sheboygan county, on November 14th, 1861, thus reaching the age of seventy-five years, eight months and twenty-eight days. He came to the town of Hull fifty-four years ago, at the age of twenty-one years, and settled on a piece of unbroken, wild land which he built into a splendid farm. He was married to Catherine Henkel at Colby on August 21, 1886. His wife preceded him in death fifteen years ago, and, since that time, lived with his children most of the time. His death came suddenly, as he had been feeling well all day Thursday, and was a sudden shock to members of his family as well as a host of friends.

The deceased was one of the true pioneers of Wisconsin and the Colby vicinity. He not only built a fine farm out of the wilderness but saw this entire vicinity change from forests into splendid farms and was a pioneer in many of the farm organizations especially the Hull Town Mutual Insurance Company which organization he served as president for a number of years. He was a man of generous impulses and never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer. His life work was done and well done.

Surviving children are E. A. Brehm of Cherokee, Mrs. Carl Reyer of Cherokee, Mrs. Julius Smith of Chicago, Ill., Miss Sylvia Brehm of Wilmett, Ill., and Otto Brehm of Cherokee. Also three brothers and one sister - Ferdinand and Richard Brehm of Sheboygan, Hugo Brehm of Springfield, Ore., and Ida Grashorn of Chicago, Ill., and ten grand children.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brehm, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brehm, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Marten, all of Sheboygan, Mrs. Herman Brehm, Mrs. Berylt Dodge and Mrs. Ella Abrahamson of Neenah.
