Willner, Louise (1882? - 11 July 1937)

Mrs. Louise Willner of Medford, age fifty-five, was struck by a Medford cannery pick-up truck, driven by Joe Weix, at Medford Sunday night at about 9:00 P.M. Another motorist picked up the injured woman and took her to the Medford hospital but she died before reaching the hospital.

Joe Weix is a Medford cannery fieldman and is a son of Mrs. Joseph Weix of Colby. He was driving a small truck at the time of the accident and had turned off highway 64 onto N. Second Street (one block east of Medford’s Main Street) and was driving north to the canning factory when Mrs. Louise Willner started across the street to visit her daughter, Mrs. Ben Gehring. It seems Joe saw her, and thinking she would continue walking, swung his truck to the left to miss her, but, unfortunately, Mrs. Willner stopped and was hit by the truck with the fatal result. Joe then became excited and hit a telephone pole which was broken off as he continued to drive for several blocks to the canning factory before returning to the scene of the accident.

Funeral services were held Wednesday and the coroners inquest will be held Friday morning, July 16th, at 9:00 o’clock. Jurymen chosen by Herbert Curran, Taylor county sheriff, for the hearing are V. A. Hirsch, W. H. Newburg, Walter Hug, T. H. Boebel, R. H. Musselman and Arthur Elvis.

Mrs. Willner is survived by four children and five step-children. The children are Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Gehrig, Mrs. Ben (Viola) Gehring, Miss Genevieve Willner, and John Willner, all of Medford. The stepchildren are Fritz Willner, Marshfield; Mrs. John (Erna) Judas, Medford; Mrs. Arthur (Gladys) Budahn, of Marshfield; Herbert and Albert Willner, Medford, and Richard, Detroit, Mich.
