Kayhart, Edward (29 Dec. 1867 - 1 Dec. 1939)

Edward Kayhart passed away at his home in the town of Sherman Friday morning, Dec. 1, 1939, at 3:20 A. M. at the age of 92 years, 11 months, and 1 day. He was born Dec. 29, 1846 in Pequanic, Morris County, New Jersey. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kayhart.

On Dec. 29, 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Vanderhoof at Chilton, Wis., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Vanderhoof. He lived 64 years in the town of Sherman, Clark County. Born to this union were two sons and two daughters. Mr. Kayhart received his education in Pequanic, Morris County, New Jersey. At the age of 17 he came to Calumet County in Wisconsin to farm for two years. He then spent two summers working for the old Sheboygan and Fond du Lac railway at Plymouth; and three winters in logging woods in towns of Beaver and Longwood, Clark County. He then returned to Pequanic to spend a few months with his mother.

Returning to Wisconsin he worked for a short time at Plymouth and then embarked in farming on an eighty in the town of Weston, Clark County. A year later he sold the farm to his brother. He then went back to Pequanic and spent three years there. Then he came to Clark County settling on a farm in the town of Sherman where he has lived until his death.

For sixteen years Mr. Kayhart served as town chairman. He also served as assessor and treasurer. He also served as vice president of the Colby State Bank.

Left to mourn his death besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Harry Emling (Mame), Abbotsford, Mrs. Frank Durkee (Libbie), two sons William and Albert Kayhart of Sherman, and two grandsons Norman Emling of Abbotsford, Edward Kayhart of Sherman and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Dec. 4 at 2:00 P. M. at the M. E. Church at Spencer, Rev. Geo. Carver, officiating. Interment was made in the West Spencer cemetery. The funeral was in charge of the Masons.

Pall Bearers were J. R. Thomas, H. R. Gravens, Fred Larson, Wm. Jensen, W. W. Clark, F. V. McIllhatten.

Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Geo. Weyhmiller, Mrs. Cora Dietsche, Mrs. Gustava Pischer, Miss Elsie Schultz, Mrs. Herman Feldbruegge.

Relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. Joel Vanderhoof, Colby: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kayhart, Donald, and Lloyd Kayhart, from Stratford, Wis.; Odeel Kayhart, Monica, Wis. Mrs. Carrie Thiel, Duluth; Neva K. Swanson, Neillsville; Mrs. Rob Sylvester, Cochran; Mrs. Marty Hein and Guy Vanderhoof, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Draper, Loyal.
