Barnes, Eli #2 (1822 - 23 APR 1900)

Dr. Eli Barnes, veterinary surgeon, died Monday, April 23rd, 1900, aged 78 years, death resulting from injuries received in a smash up on Fifth Street in this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) last fall. He was jogging along homeward in a buggy, when he was overtaken by a runaway team belonging to Frank Kubat, thrown from his buggy, and fallen upon by a horse. For weeks it seemed as if he must die, but he recovered wonderfully, living the winter through in comfortable condition, finally to lay down the burden of life, and begin the eternity of rest. The doctor was a hale, hearty man, plain in speech, and honest in intent, a blunt, outspoken pioneer, of a type only seen in the west. He was the father of J.V. Banes of West Pine Valley. The funeral was held Tuesday, the burial being at the Pine Valley Cemetery.
