Chandler, Mary J. (7 APR 1837 - 8 OCT 1899)

Mary J. Chandler passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8th, at the residence of R. Schofield at Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) during a visit, from abscess of the salivary glands, which developed into pneumonia about four weeks ago.

Deceased was born on the shores of Lake Champlain, in Essex, N.Y., Apr. 7, 1837, the eldest of five children, all of whom survive her and were present at the last sad rites. She removed with her parents when one years of age to St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., where she was reared and educated, taught school 12 years and married Mr. Chandler in 1864; came here in ’65, and lived to see out beautiful little city carved out of the dense wilderness. She was of a very amiable, loving disposition, doing for others, regardless of self, devoted to her children.

Her aged husband and two children, Carlton H. of Blanchardville and Mrs. Robt. O. Smith of this city, are left to miss her presence in the home circle. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian Church yesterday at 2 p.m.
