Gosse, Anna (30 Mar. 1881 - 24 May 1933)

Mrs. Wm. E. Gosse died at the Owen hospital Wednesday morning where she had been operated upon for appendicitis about a month ago. Funeral services will be held at the Gosse home in the town of Colby Saturday afternoon at 1:30 and at the Reformed church in Colby at 2:00 P.M., Rev. H. K. Hartmann officiating. Obituary will be published next week.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wm. E. Gosse, whose death was chronicled in the Phonograph last week, were held at the Gosse home in the town of Colby last Saturday afternoon at 1:30 and at the Reformed church in Colby at 2:00, Rev. H. K. Hartmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Albert Wiedenhoeft, Edmund Thede, Alex Thede, Ed. Stock, Otto Dins and Frank Sterzinger. The flower girls were Irene Ortmeier, Adeline Thede, Bertha Dins, Loraine Senkbeil, Valeska Gosse, Dorothy Hamann, Mildred Wiedenhoeft, Margaret Sterzinger. The Royal Neighbors attended in a body.

Mrs. Gosse had been operated on for appendicitis at the Owen hospital, had been improving nicely and it was expected that she would be able to return home in a few days but a sudden heart attack proved fatal. The news of her sudden death was a shock to everybody in this community, and, when the word was whispered about town that she suddenly passed away, it left a sudden pain. The unusually large funeral and the many floral offerings testified to the love and esteem in which she was held.

The deceased was born March 30, 1881, at Sheboygan, Wis., thus reaching the age of fifty-two years, one month and twenty-four days. She was married to Wm. Gosse at Sheboygan, Wis., on April 22, 1900, and made their home there until eighteen years ago when they moved to this community, making their home on a farm in the town of Colby.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Clarence Gosse and Melvin Gosse of Abbotsford, one grand son, Maynard, one brother, Charles Weins of Sheboygan and two step sisters, Mrs. Fred Gosse of Cleveland and Mrs. William Hamann.

The out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Weins, Mrs. Alma Weins, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gosse and daughter, Valeska, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hamann and daughter, Dorothy, Mr. and Mrs. August Gosse, Mr. and Mrs. Leugen Gosse, Mrs. Robert Kummer, Mrs. Casper Schneider, Mr. Ed. Mueller, Mr. Jerome Krummer, all of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Mrs. Henry Wohlhaupt, Mrs. C. O’Brein and daughter, Mr. J. O’Brein and daughter, all of Antigo; Mr. Ed. Breuker, Mrs. Will Volk, Mrs. Val Volk, Mrs. John Horn and children, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wehrman, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wehrman, Mrs. Gust Abel, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Boekeker, Mr. and Mrs. Orlonda Boekeker, all of Greenwood.

Mrs. Gosse was a faithful member of the Reformed church of Colby and also a member of the Colby Lodge of the Royal Neighbors. Her life was gentle and she was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need - both in acts of kindness and in words. Her cheerful, beautiful, helpful life; her kindness to everybody, will long linger as a fragrant memory in the home which her presence brightened and which death has now darkened. Mrs. Gosse also had been a correspondent for the Colby Phonograph and for many years faithfully sent in all the news of her neighborhood.
