Mead, Kitty (Marriage - 2 July 1885)

Mr. J. L. Gates, one of Neillsville’s substantial business men, was married to Miss Kitty Mead, at the bride’s home in Northwood Center, N. H. on the 2d inst. The bride has resided here for the past year, and had won her way to the hearts of all with whom she became acquainted by her sweet, womanly nature and refined manner. She will be welcomed back as the bride of one of our leading men with true, open hospitality.

The following special dispatch to the Boston Journal gives an account of the brilliant wedding:

"Northwood Center, N. H., July 2 - A brilliant wedding occurred this morning from the residence of the bride’s father, the contracting parties being J. L. Gates, a very wealthy gentleman of Wisconsin, and Kitty, youngest daughter of John Mead, Esq., a well-known merchant of this place. Rev. E. C. Cogswell was the officiating clergyman. Miss Edith Gates acted as bridesmaid and the groom’s best friend was Robert Gates. The presents were numerous and costly. The happy couple immediately left for an extended western tour."
