Carr, Charles M. (1862 - 10 May 1885)

Carr, At the Reddan House, in this city, Sunday evening, May 10, 1885, of consumption Charles M. Carr, aged 23 years, 1 month and 12 (?) days.

Charles M. was a son of Mr. I. T. Carr, proprietor of the Republican and Press. During the last session of the legislature Charles held a clerkship at the capitol. After the adjournment he came to this city, and although being in quiet poor health, he was able to be out and around until the day of his death. On Friday evening he experienced a sinking spell, but Saturday he was able to walk to his father’s office. Sunday he was unable to leave his bed, and at about 8 o’clock in the evening he passed away, with no relatives present except his brother Frank, his father being away at Jefferson. The death of Charles was sudden and unexpected, and is indeed a sad affliction to his relatives and friends.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the remains were yesterday evening escorted to the depot by members of the order, and were accompanied as far as Merrillan by L. L. Ayers, P. Johnson, Wm. Heaslett, D. Roberts, E. A. Webster, and H. Mahar.

The father will meet his son Frank and the remains of Charles at Madison, from whence they will proceed to Monroe, where the family burying ground is situated.

The whole community extends heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved relatives.
