Griepentrog, Elizabeth J. (19 APR 1931 - 29 MAY 2007)

Elizabeth J. "Betty" Griepentrog, 76, Spencer, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, in the Palliative Care Unit of Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, surrounded by her family. Private services are scheduled. Interment of ashes will be in the West Spencer Cemetery.

Elizabeth J. Wenzel was born April 19, 1931, in Marshfield, to Robert and Lillian (nee Gotz) Wenzel. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1951. She married Donald Griepentrog on Nov. 8, 1952. She was most recently employed in the bakery departments at Koller Foods, Rainbow Foods, and Festival Foods until her retirement in 1993. After retirement, she continued working as a baby sitter, which she dearly loved. She will forever be remembered by all the children whose lives she touched by her motherly love and kindness. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It was the highlight of her day when they came to visit, especially when she could challenge them to an always exciting game of chaser.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Don, Spencer; one son, Jim Griepentrog and his children Derek, Devon (Troy Shull), and Luke, Spencer; daughter, Jane Krohn (special friend Joe Amick), Marshfield, and her child Jessica (Dan) Harriman, Eau Claire; daughter, Joni (Shane) Karl and their children Elijah and Libby, Marshfield; and son, Jon (Jodi) Griepentrog and their children Haley Griepentrog and Hayley and Trayton Weister, Marshfield; four great-grandchildren, Chase Shull, Spencer, Gage Griepentrog and his mother Andi Shipton, Marshfield, and Delany and Karley Harriman, Eau Claire; three brothers, Fred (Lois)Wentzel, Hawkins, Chuck (Donna) Wentzel, Spencer; and Bob (Sally) Wentzel, Spencer; one sister, Karen (Ron) Kupfer, Monevideo, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Wilber and Gordon Wentzel.

"Little we knew that morning, God was going to call your name, in life we loved you dearly, and in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."

Hansen Funeral Home, Marshfield, is assisting the family with arrangements.
