Lamont, William D. (14 Nov. 1869 - 15 Aug. 1932)

Funeral services for W. D. Lamont, whose death was chronicled in this paper last week, were held at the Colby M. E. church Monday afternoon, Rev. F. M. Blish officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. At the grave Masonic services were held under the auspices of the Colby lodge F. & A.M. The pall bearers were Gust Melander, Robert Hamilton, Earl Salter, K. Andrews, Henry Wilkening and John Vaughn.

The deceased was born in Pesaukee on November 14, 1869, thus reaching the age of sixty-two years. He came to Colby when a child and attended the Colby schools and one of the five who were members of the first graduating class of the Colby, Wis. High School in 1888. For a number of years he was a mill wright on the Pacific Coast but returned to Colby in 1910 and farmed here from 1910 to 1919. He was connected with the pea cannery at Marengo from 1922 to 1925, at Athens from 1925 to 1929 and at Fifield and Northern Wisconsin in lumber woods from 1929 to 1932. He was married to Mary Edwards in Colby in 1913. He died at the General hospital at Madison on August 15, 1932, cancer of the bowel being the cause of his departure.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Rachel, Mary Ann, and Angus, who reside at Athens; also two sisters, Mrs. T. H. Patterson, Fifield, and Mrs. D. E. Sullivan, of Fond du Lac; and four brothers, Charles A., Minneapolis, Minn., Ronald, Cheyenne, Wyo., Earle, Columbus Grove, Ohio, and Angus, Colby.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Patterson and Gene Patterson of Fifield, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Sullivan of Fond du Lac.

The deceased was of a congenial disposition and his friends believed his convictions were honest and sincere. Our little city and its hospitable people always held a warm corner in his heart. But he has left us and soon the autumn leaves will fall upon another grave.

*** Note: Mr. Lamont’s first name is from the Colby cemetery index on this site.
