Gumz, Frank O. (4 OCT 1891 - 22 SEP 1936)

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. J.J. Hofmann from the Peace Evangelical Church for Frank Gumz who died Tuesday evening at 7 o’clock at the Wausau County Hospital following injuries received in a car accident about 8 o’clock Sunday morning.

Mr. Gumz, with his sons, Frank Jr. and Raymond, William Knaack of Marathon City, and a farm hand were enroute to Mr. Gumz’s home in the town of Maine, eight miles north of Wausau, when the wishbone on their car became loose and the car turned over in the ditch. The accident occurred near the Brown corner on County Trunk A north of Milan. Frank Gumz Jr. was driving at the time of the accident.

Mr. Gumz was rushed to the Wausau hospital where it was impossible to discover the extent of his injuries. Aside from minor bruises none of the other occupants of the car were injured.

Frank Otto Gumz was born at Waters, Mich., Oct. 4, 1891 and was nearly 45 years old at time of death. When six years old he moved with his parents to Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) and lived on the farm in the town of Holton until his marriage to Miss Amanda Marten, which took place at Marshfield on Nov. 1, 1911. The Gumz family lived in this community and on a farm four miles west of Athens until last September when they moved to their new farm in the town of Maine. They planed to celebrate their silver wedding in November of this year.

Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Louis Gumz, town of Holton; his wife, two daughters, Mrs. William Dallman, nee Clara, of Stratford and Miss Violet at home; five sons, Clarence, Frank, Raymond, Eldred and Martin Gumz, all at home; and one grandson, Elisha Dallman of Stratford. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Herman Kaage and Mrs. Robert Krause of Dorchester; and four brothers, Charles Gumz of Milan, Otto Gumz of Silver Lake and William and Herman of the town of Holton.
