Kops, Clarence Otto (14 Oct. 1911 - 1 Oct. 1931)

Clarence Otto Kops of Unity, died at the Mr. Washington sanitarium at Eau Claire on Thursday, Oct. 1st, 1931, quick consumption being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. He was a member of the Zion’s Lutheran church of Colby from which the funeral services were held Monday afternoon and were largely attended by the people of Unity and vicinity. The services were conducted by Rev. O. Hoffmann, pastor of the church. The girls who acted as flower bearers and the young men who bore his remains to their last resting place were his friends and companions, paying their last respects to their friend.

Clarence, was born at Neillsville, Wis., Oct. 14, 1911, and, a few years later, moved to the village of Unity with his grand parents with whom he made his home. He was educated in the public schools of that village and was a member of the class of 1930. But a few weeks ago his illness was first reported and his disease, which was given as quick consumption, did not seem possible for he had always been apparently a strong rugged lad, but, in some unfortunate moment, he must have contracted the dreaded disease which, in a few short weeks, carried him beyond the river from which there is no return.

Clarence leaves to mourn his death, his mother, Mrs. Roy Hudson, his grand mother, Mrs. Herman Kops, and her family, Herman, Wallace, Lester, Norman, Elsie, Odelia and Isobelle Kops and the people of the entire community.

He was a young man of sterling qualities and was held in the highest respect by his many friends of the community.
