Krepsky, August F. (20 Sept. 1850 - 16 Aug. 1931)

August F. Krepsky died at his home on Sunday, August 16th, at 6:23 A.M., after an illness of about three weeks duration, diabetes being the cause of his departure. Funeral services were held at the Colby M. E. church Wednesday afternoon, August 19th, Rev. F. M. Blish officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Wm. Witte, Fred Dix, Wm. Schmidt, Ed Zillmann, Joe Kraus and Louis Frane. The flower girls were Margaret Frane, Katherine Kraus, Bernadette Kraus, Genevieve Kersten, Mary Zillmann and Mary Umhoefer.

The deceased was born in the city of Sheboygan on September 20th, 1850, thus having reached the age of eighty years, ten months and twenty-six days. He spent his boyhood days in Sheboygan, attended the common schools there and assisted his father.

On September 22, 1878, he was united in marriage to Alvina Bein. To this union five children were born.

He, with his family, moved to Colby February 22, 1892, when he and Carl Meinecke bought out the hardware business of George Wallbridge, the two carrying on the business for about a year and a half. Then Mr. Krepsky bought Mr. Meinecke’s interest and conducted the business until 1910. He has lived in Colby for thirty-nine years with the exception of one year spent in Abbotsford, Wis.

He is survived by two daughters and one son, namely: Mrs. Carl Holtzhausen, Hugo Krepsky and Miss Henrietta Krepsky, all of Colby, and six grand children. Two sons passed away shortly after the arrival of the family in Colby. Mrs. Krepsky preceded her husband in death about five and one-half years ago. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Henry of Green Bay, Frank of Sheboygan and Mrs. Ernest Thiel of Colby.

The out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Krepsky, Mrs. Andrew Lau, Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Meyer, all of Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bohl, Sheboygan Falls; Herman Holtzhausen and Mrs. Louis Kolb, both of Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schultz, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sweemer and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Martin, all of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wichman, of Athens; Mr. and Mrs. Earl White and Mrs. N. J. White, Wausau; Mrs. Louie Buettner, Spencer.

It was the writer’s good fortune to have known him long and well, and we only knew him to esteem him more highly as the years passed by, and, although he will be sadly missed by members of his immediate family, we, too, will miss his friendly smile and kindly greeting. He believed in the fatherhood of God and was a devoted husband and a kind and indulgent father. Now he is gone but the record he has made, like all our pioneers, will remain with us as a lasting treasure.
