Tews, Hilda (6 Apr. 1911 - 6 Apr. 1975)

Spencer, Wis. - Private funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rux Funeral Home, Spencer, for Mrs. Hilda Tews, 64. She died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Clark County Home at Owen, where she had been a patient the past 25 years.

Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Goessling, pastor of Ebenezer United Church of Christ at Stratford. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Spencer.

Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. today and Wednesday morning at the Rux Funeral Home.

The former Hilda Schwantes was born April 6, 1911, in Spencer and was a graduate of Spencer High School and Marathon County Normal School at Wausau. She taught several years in Marathon and Clark County schools. Her marriage on March 15, 1930 at Waukegan, Ill., was to Melvin Tews.

She was a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid Society and St. John’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at Withee.

Survivors include her stepmother, Mrs. Anna Schwantes, residing at Colonial House of Colby; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Anola) Hagedorn, Fond du Lac, and Mrs. Lyle (Jeanne) Henseler, Layton, Utah; a brother, Theodore Schwantes, Dallas, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Marilyn Viegut, Athens, and Mrs. Ervin Schmidt, Stratford; three stepbrothers, Erland Westberg, Prime, Ore., Harold Westberg, Portland, Ore., and Orville Westberg, Unity; a stepsister, Mrs. Lester Bruesewitz, Spencer; and six grandchildren.

A sister preceded her in death.
