Usher, Thomas (1853? - 1883)

Considerable excitement was occasioned on Friday last by the report that one Thomas Usher had been found dead in the rear of Dallas Vernum’s Saloon. The facts, as they developed are, that his friends treated him to as much whiskey as he could drink - about eighteen glasses, and then took him into a back room to sleep it off. An inquest had been held, but the result is not yet made known. If there has been any foul play the matter should be sifted to the bottom and the parties concerned made to answer for it. The dead man is Irish, and came here from Watertown, Wis. He was thirty years of age and a confirmed drunkard. He has one brother in this place and another brother who has just arrived from Watertown.
