Klein, Leo E. (26 Jun. 1913 - 5 Oct. 1994)

Leo E. Klein, 81, of 1600 N. Fig Ave. died at 12:20 a.m. Oct. 5, 1994, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice Care Unit. He had been admitted to the hospital Sept. 19.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark A. Krueger officiating. Mrs. T. P. Bradtke will be the organist for congregational singing.

Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Eric, Kirk, Kent, Scott, Craig and Michael Klein. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Tina and Amber Klein.

Visitation will be at Rembs / Kundinger Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today and again Friday until noon and then at the church from 1 p.m. until service time Friday.

He was born June 26, 1913, in Bruce Township, Iowa, to Charles and Minnie (Steinke) Sturtz. He came to the Marshfield area in 1922 with his family. In 1924, he was adopted by Rose and Louis Klein of rural Spencer. He attended Willow Brook School in the town of Unity and Spencer schools.

He married Evelyn W. Schwantes Feb. 11, 1933, in Spencer. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1983 and their 60th wedding anniversary in 1993.

Prior to and after his marriage, he was self-employed in the trucking business in the Spencer area. In 1947, he moved to Marshfield and was employed by L. L. Felker Motors as a shop foreman. He later re-established his trucking business, known as Klein Truck Leasing Service. He sold the business in 1967 to retire. The Kleins resided in Marshfield until 1970, when they moved to Florida. They resided in Florida until 1985 and then returned to Marshfield.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge 224 of Marshfield, Fraternal Order of Eagles Badger Aerie No. 624 and United Commercial Travelers Council 189.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Ardell M. (Marianne) Klein of Marshfield; three brothers; two sisters; one step-sister, eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; his adopted parents; one son; Russell Klein, who died in 1983; one infant daughter, Beverly Ann, who died in 1936; and one sister.

Memorials may be given in Mr. Klein’s name to Christ Lutheran Church.
