Smith, Ferne (1 OCT 1938)

The Olivet church was the scene of a pretty wedding last Saturday afternoon when Miss Ferne Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith became the bride of Mr. William Schoengrund of Doylestown, according to a story in a recent issue of the Columbus Republican. The double-ring ceremony was performed by Rev. L. C. Partch.

Before the wedding party entered the church to the strains of Lohengrin’s wedding march, played on the organ by Mrs. Nelson Webster, the Misses June and Mildred Schoengrund, sisters of the bridegroom, sang "O Promise Me."

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in a white satin dress, the skirt being fashioned with back fullness which lengthened into a train. Her veil was finger-tip length and fell from a lace cap.

She carried a semi-shower bouquet of Briar-Cliff roses and bavardis. Her attendant, the bride-groom’s sister Marie, was attired in pink and carried an arm bouquet of deeper pink roses. The little flower girl, Sally Wright, wore blue and carried a small basket of pink flowers.

The bridegroom was attended by Vernon Schaefer and Prace Oehlert were ushers.

Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served for the immediate families was served at the home of the bride’s parents. After a honeymoon trip to northern Wisconsin the newly weds will make their home on his father’s farm.

The bridegroom was born near Loyal, and moved to Doylestown with the family in 1916. He has a number of relatives in this community.
