Harold G. Schulz, age 93, of Stanley, WI, was called home to be with his Savior on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp, WI with Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Friends and family called one hour prior to the service time at the church on Friday. Burial was at Arlington Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI on Saturday, March 17, 2007.

Harold George Schulz was born to George and Augusta (Harthun) Schulz on July 9, 1913 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up in Milwaukee and attended St. Stephen and St. Paul Lutheran Grade School and graduated from South Division High School in 1931. He then attended Milwaukee Area Technical College studying math and engineering. He worked for Allis Chalmers Corporation in the compressor Division from 1938 to 1958. He was a very accomplished musician, playing both the trumpet and the piano. During World War II he served the Milwaukee community as an air-raid warden. During the war he also worked for two years as a civilian on the then top secret Manhattan Project, which ultimately developed the atomic bomb. He also served his local community as treasurer of the water board and his church as church treasurer. He was very talented in and enjoyed woodworking. He also enjoyed traveling and planning road trips, on which he spent much of his time taking photographs. He loved to talk about his trips, which went as far as Canada, the Caribbean and South America. Harold was also well known for his great sense of humor. He loved to tell ad hear jokes and funny stories. Unfortunately he lost his eye sight at the age of 45, however, that never stopped him from his woodworking, decorating his home with Christmas lights and many other tasks which he found inventive ways to accomplish. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp.

Harold married Martha Budish on June 28, 1941. They lived in Milwaukee for 10 years, moved to Brookfield in 1951 and to Hartland in 1974 before moving to Thorp in 2002. They were married for 62 years before Martha preceded him in death on May 29, 2004. Harold moved to Stanley in 2006.

Harold was so loved and will be greatly missed by his two daughters: Cheryl (Dennis) Gramins of Salem, WI and Janice (Robert) Monke of Thorp, WI; his four grandchildren: Todd (Hanne) Gramins of Brunswich, ME, Robin (Tim) Leipert of Oshkosh, WI, Amy (Dave) Snapp of Chetek, WI, and Heidi (Jay) Harrison of Waukesha, WI; five great-grandchildren: Molly, Max, Heather, Meagan and Stephen Harold; one brother-in-law, Robert Budish of Muskego, WI; and other relatives and many friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; his parents; his sister, Lillian Engel; and many life time friends.
