Leichtnam, Joseph (1 JUL 1871 - 11 JUN 1932)

Joseph Leichtnam, Colby carpenter, died Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Wausau Memorial Hospital from a fractured skull. While working on the framework of a new garage for C.J. Frane at Colby one day last week, Mr. Leichtnam lost his balance, as he was being handed a piece of lumber, and fell to the cement floor below.

The remains were taken to Colby last Saturday. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. L. Lang officiating.

Mr. Leichtnam was born July 1, 1871, at Woodville, Calumet County and passed away at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 10 days. At the age of 2 years, he came to Colby with his folks,. He grew to manhood there and on May 11, 1884 (1894?), he was united in marriage to Miss Marie Laack at Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.). They began housekeeping on a farm one and one-half miles west of Colby, but sixteen years ago they moved to Colby, where he has since followed the carpenter trade.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Larson and Miss Margaret, of Minneapolis, and Mrs. George Weinhoetz of Elkhart Lake, and two sons, Gorman of Abbotsford, and Herbert of Fond du Lac. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. M. Firnstahl, Evanston, Ill., Mrs. Rose Simons of Milwaukee, Mrs. Betty Fisher of Chicago, and Mrs. William Herman of Curtiss, two brothers, Edward and Albert of Abbotsford, and eight grandchildren.
