Stroota, Albert (9 NOV 1863 - 23 OCT 1931)

It was with sadness that Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) friends learned of the death of Albert Stroota, pioneer settler of this country, who passed away at his home in Colby Friday afternoon from organic heart disease. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30 from the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. H. Lachnit officiating, assisted by Rev. Wm. Reading of Wis. Rapids, who delivered the final address, a beautiful tribute to the life of the deceased, who was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

Eighteen honorary pallbearers led the funeral cortege from the house to church. They were Mayor James E. Lyons, Chas. Kesler, Wm. Will. Sr., August Meyers, Walter Jackson, Theo. Hoeft, Gustave Hoeft, Sr., Nick Sker??, Fed Meske, Sr., Theo. Wehrmann, Gustave Strebe, Edward Sybeldon, Joe Sterzinger, Edwin Schiebe, John Schefsick, Edward Zillmann, McKenzie Andrews, Matt Allar, Sr., Gustav Franz and Paul Firnstahl. Interment took place in the Colby Cemetery with C. Kraus, J.E. Allar, A.m. Steinwald, Victor Frane, Wm. Will Jr., and Conrad Niggeman acting as pallbearers.

Albert Stroota was born Nov. 9, 1863 at Oostburg, Wis., and was 67 years, 11 months and 14 days old at time of death. He grew to young manhood there and on Nov. 18, 1884, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Henk at Alma Center. To this happy union five children were born, all of whom, with their mother, survive him. In 1883 he moved to the town of Holton (Marathon Co., Wis.) where he settled on a farm. During that time he underwent the hardships endured by pioneers who hewed beautiful farms out of the vast wilderness. From 1890 to 1900 Mr. Stroota held the office of town assessor and from 1900 to 1909 that of town treasurer. He left the farm in 1911 and established a hardware store in Abbotsford with his sons. In 1919 the business was moved to Marathon City, and last year, after retiring from active service, he made his home at Colby.

Mr. Stroota was a kind husband and loving father, never forgetting pioneer hospitality. He was widely known and beloved and respected by all who knew him. His quiet, unassuming manner and friendly attitude gained him many friends, who shall miss him greatly, as will his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Stroota, three daughters, Miss Roselind and Mrs. Cora C. Keene of Chicago, and Mrs. Clara Decker of Dorchester, and two sons, Arnold of Colby, and Oscar of Marathon City, 6 grandchildren, Roselind, Adelbert, Myron, Margaret, Bernard and Dolores Decker, of Dorchester, Mrs. Chas. Davis of MacGregor, Ia., and a brother-in-law, Kasper Henk.

Out of town relatives who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Chris Grasse, Herman Grasse and son, Wilbur, John Grasse and son, Theodore, all of Sister Bay, Wis., Martin Grasse and son-in-law, Mr. Sueco of Ripon, Wis., half-brother of the deceased, Mrs. Henry Hebing, son, Cecil, and daughter, Mrs. Hannah Kronenwetter of Baldwin, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heiden of Sheboygan, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobi and family of Abbotsford, Mrs. August Kroener of Sheboygan, Wis., Wm. Wirth of Wausau, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Wirth of Holton. Friends from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Ferdinand Jacoby of Sheboygan Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Young and Mr. and Mrs. Will Johnson of Stevens Point, Mr. and Mrs. Fox of Mellen, Mr. and Mrs. George Small of Tomahawk and his many friends throughout Marathon and Carl Counties.

Dorchester friends join the Clarion in offering sincerest sympathy to the bereaved.
