Schmidt, Augusta (12 JAN 1855 - 17 SEP 1931)

Funeral services for Mrs. Augusta Schmidt, who passed away at her home in the town of Little Black (Taylor Co., Wis.) last Thursday, were held Monday afternoon from the Evangelical Church of Peace, with Rev. J.R. Kalwitz officiating. Pallbearers were John Brunner, Joe Pueschner, Ray Marcotte, Albert Paul, Gust Fisse and William Hofmann, and Verna Guth, Gertrude and Ruth Scidmore, Anna Rau, Lucille Tauchen and Delores Boxrucker acted as flower girls.

Augusta Shewe was born January 12, 1855, in the Province of Kreuan??, West Prussia, German, and died at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 5 days. Death was due to flu followed by cardiac dilation and other complications.

In 1876, Aug. Schmidt, who had been in this country about 2 years, sent passage home for his folks and Miss Shewe to come to America. Upon arriving here they settled in St. Louis, Mo. The following year they moved to Bensenville, Ill., and on March 31, 1877, Miss Shewe was united in marriage to August Schmidt at Chicago. They spent their early years together at Bensenville, Elk Grove and in Cook County. They came to Taylor County, Wis. in 1899 and settled on their farm home in the town of Little Black, where they have since resided. Three children survive her, one son, Fred Schmidt, and two daughters, Mrs. Martha Small and Miss Minna Miller, of the town of Little Black, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Charlotte Klabunda of Pittsville, and Miss Louis Small of the town of Little Black. Her husband preceded her in death last December.

Mrs. Schmidt was a fine upstanding woman, a staunch believer in Christian doctrines and a member of the Dorchester Evangelical Peace Church. Like those old settlers of this country, she led a life of constant toil that her children may enjoy greater advantages in life. She was well loved by all who knew her and the many friends as well as her children will mourn her departure. The friends join the Clarion in offering sincerest sympathy to the bereaved ones.
