Schmidt, Joseph (14 AUG 1851 - 17 AUG 1931)

Joseph Schmidt, who has resided here (Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.) about 18 years, passed away at his home Monday morning from hemiplegic of the left side. His illness was of only a few days duration and the end came quietly. Funeral services were held at the St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Schank of Eagle River, reading the mass and Father Pitzenberger delivering the sermon. Interment took palce in the local cemetery with John Schnmitt, Joe Kronschnabl, A.P. Miller, John Plier, Wm. Schumacher and John Goessl acting as pallbearers.

Joseph Schmidt was born in Germany on Aug. 14, 1851, and died at the age of 80 years and 3 days. When he arrived in this country he settled in eastern Wisconsin and some years later move to Spencer. He came to Dorchester from there and started a shoe repairing business, which he has managed ever since.

Those present for the services were his sister, Mrs. Anna Schank and his nephew, Rev. Father Schank, of Eagle River, his brothers, Tony of Neenah, Frank and son, Herman of Antigo, and Mr. ad Mrs. Chas. Schmidt of Appleton. The Clarion joins the many friends in offering sympathy to the bereaved.
