Humke, Herbert #2 (7 DEC 1916 - 21 SEP 1944)

Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Humke received word Saturday of the death of their son, Lt. Herbert Humke in England on Thursday, Sept. 21, 1944. word was sent to Herbert’s wife at Mosinee and she in turn notified them.

Lt. Humke enlisted in the army, May 1, 1941. He was stationed at Chanute Field, Ill., until Nov 21, at which time he was graduated to Lieutenants course. He received further training at Barksdale Field, La.; Columbus, Miss.; and then took a course in blind flying at Seymour, Ind. He was then sent to Maxwell Field, Ala. And to Boise, Idaho where he remained until he went to England on Aug. 1, 1944.

Herbert Henry Humke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Humke was born in the Town of Warner (Clark Co., Wis.) on Dec. 7, 1916 and was a graduate of our high school with the class of 1934. He was employed at Mosinee in the printing office of his brother-in-law, Francis Schweinler, until he enlisted.

On Feb. 26, 1944 he was married at Montgomery, Ala., to Miss Lillian Kauput of Mosinee.

He is survived by his wife, his parents, five sisters, Mrs. P.H. Franzmeier of New Albin, Iowa; Mrs. Francis (Irene) Schweinler, Alabama; Mrs. Fred (Rose) Timmler, Greenwood; Mrs. Louis (Cora) Slock, Eau Claire and Mrs. Willard (Vera) Stafford, Milwakee; and two brothers, Everett, S 3-c with the U.S. navy and Harold at home. His grandmother, Mrs. Henry Humke and many other relatives and friends.
