Ryniec, Helen Regina (June 10, 1909 - January 25, 2007)

The gardens of Heaven are well tended today, but Earth has lost a treasure.

Helen R. Ryniec, age 97, of Thorp, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2007 in Thorp. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2007 at the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jim Altman officiated and burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in Withee. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Sunday, January 28, 2007 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Helen Regina Kowieski was born on June 10, 1909 in the Town of Withee to John and Julianna (Kryanski) Kowieski. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Pineland School. In 1927, Helen started working in Chicago, during the winters, and returned to Thorp to work on the home farm during the summers. She was united in marriage to Stanley Skrzypek on October 6, 1934 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Helen worked with her husband in their family restaurant in Chicago. Stanley passed away in August of 1943. She then met and was united in marriage to Leo Ryniec on April 15, 1944, in Chicago, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church. In 1945, they purchased a farm north of Thorp, where they farmed until their retirement in 1971. Leo passed away on February 1, 1973. Helen moved into Thorp and worked at the Thorpedo Restaurant for 15 years.

She was a member of the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary for 37 years and had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family, and was an accomplished cook and gardener. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and sister. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Helen is survived by her three children: Dotty (Gerald) Olson of Indian Trail, NC, Donald (Vicky) Ryniec of Janesville, WI, and David (Maureen) Ryniec of Arnold, CA; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Michael Kowieski of Auburndale, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; one sister, Victoria Jarocki; and four brothers: Nick, Joe, Paul and Frank Kowieski.

Helen’s family is especially grateful to Linda Kruger whose loving care allowed her to stay comfortable in her home. Special thanks to the caring staff at Oakbrook health & Rehab, and to Hope Hospice of Rib Lake.
